context

This house is the second detached house of a duplex block with stunning bush & beach views.

opportunity

The roof was designed to hover over pavilion style living spaces arranged around an internal deck space.  The upper and lower floors were designed to function as either separate self-contained dwelling units or as one large house.  Large sliding doors & windows retract to provide a seamless connection to views to the beach.  The fixed glass under the floating roof allows playful interactions with the local koala population in the adjacent tree.  Creative spatial planning and strategically placed mirrored splashbacks and walls ensure all rooms access the glorious ocean views.  The materials are both domestic, robust but refined to communicate a simple elegance without being overly precious about sandy feet.
