context

The existing highset house had a lovely large Lilly Pilly tree almost consuming the rear yard. The existing living areas turned their back on the tree & yard with limited connection between these spaces.

opportunity

New outdoor living area oriented to the rear yard & tree canopy plus a new study space/home office.

solution

The existing roof line was continued over a new rear deck the full width of the house. New large sliding timber doors & windows connected the internal living spaces with the external living spaces. The existing deck was built-in and converted to a new study space and a new access stair to one side connects to the lower floor. The budget was modest but the positive intervention completely shifts the feel of the house.
